Agenda Items - OLD Business:
* Update on Hiring of New Counselor: Dana Shelburne reported that the
counselor position should be posted on the PAR system on 1/5/04.
* Involvement by All Governance Stakeholders in the Interview Process:
Patti Nussbaum reiterated the desire to have a Governance member on the
interview panels. (It was voted on 10/15/03 to have a member of the current
Governance team on interview panels.)
* Update on the Band Director: D. Shelburne reported that the current
replacement, Gary Pack, seems to be a good fit for the program. The band
will play in the concert this week, and the students seem pleased with
the situation as well.
Agenda Items - NEW Business:
* College Information Night: P. Nussbaum reviewed the feedback from last
years event. Parents expressed a desire to learn more about the
timeline/facts for the application process, and less of a sales pitch.
The would also like to see the senior acceptance speech extended to the
top 200, or a general list of colleges that students are accepted. Possibly
a graph with score ranges and corresponding schools.
* Anticipation of Budget Cuts for Next Year: Jamie Ginsberg heard that
there would be $90 million in cuts next year due to a shortfall. Dana
Shelburne reported that the District has asked principals to think about
what they would cut if they had to. Governance will also be asked to give
their input, as will departments and stag members.
* Honorary Service Awards for Spring 2004: After discussion and thought,
PTA has decided not to have the Spring Open House as it has done in the
past. The Honorary Service Awards will still take place at a different
time.5.
Roundtable:
* The Choir/Choral Concert was fantastic!
* The Lower Athletic Field renovation project was approved by the Board,
and will hopefully be complete by softball season.
* Steve Grant reported that the Ninth grade library orientation has begun
and now includes a student survey.
* Patti Nussbaum recommended informing the community of the ways we are
taking advantage of the Autonomy Agreement.
* ASB reported of the success of the Canned Food Drive.
* The question of staging athletic tryouts was asked. Dana Shelburne reported
that the window between tryouts and games is too narrow to stager tryouts.
He also reported that if there are questions/concerns/comments regarding
tryouts or cuts to contact Bob Allen.
