1. Call to Order: Carole LeCren called the meeting to order at 2:37 p.m.

2. Minutes: The minutes from January 21, 2004, were approved as amended

3. Agenda Items – OLD Business
* What Were the Changes in the Master Schedule for 2nd Semester: A new science teacher and a new Spanish teacher were hired.
* Closure on Band/AP Music Issues: Mr. Pack will be with us until the end of the year, then the position will be posted. AP Music students will be given the option of taking the AP test due to the loss of 5 weeks of instruction. If a student in AP Music chooses not to take the test, he/she will not lose AP credit for the class. Michael asked if AP Music will be offered next year. Mr. Shelburne answered that it is currently one of the choices listed. If there is enough interest, then the decision will be made to hold the class. The number of music sections (band, etc.) will depend on how many sections Muirlands is planning to offer, since the position is currently split between the two schools. Parents were instructed to call Mr. Shelburne if they felt a meeting was required.

4. Agenda Items – NEW Business
* Scheduling of Air Band, Fashion Show, Junior Dance, ASB Ball, etc.: Why are so many of these events scheduled relatively close together? The problem is that the students lose academic focus because of their intense interest in these events. Discussion followed. Airband is driven by an external date for the regional competition. The date for the ASB Ball falls between Homecoming and Prom, and because our school’s homecoming is somewhat later than other school’s (because of BlastOff), that makes ASB Ball usually later in the year. If the issue is student distraction, then maybe time management should be discussed with them. Because of the Fashion Show’s similarity to Air Band, perhaps it should be scheduled further away from Air Band. But, scheduling it later runs into AP exams, etc. The ASB is open to suggestions.
* Status of “Temporary” Bathroom Facility on the Field: The bathroom stays until it falls apart. Because of its “temporary” status, it did not fall under any of the renovations (which only apply to permanent buildings). The district will only fix parts, such as light fixtures or plumbing. Painting or ADA renovation will not be funded. Currently the building is supposed to be locked on weeknights and unlocked on weekends. Being unlocked on a Friday night with no lights is not supposed to happen, as Carole LeCren observed one Friday around 6:30 p.m. with students inside the girls side screaming.
* Form SubCommittee to Start Working on Principal’s Evaluation: Patti Nussbaum, Carole LeCren, Kathleen Steele, Nancy Dowlen, and an ASB student will be on the committee, which will meet Monday, March 1, at 2:30, in Room 513.

5. Announcements/Roundtable:
* Dana said he would be attending another district budget meeting—this one would talk about how the sites might be able to have some say about how the restricted budget items will be adjusted.
* Jamie announced she has a contact with the city who will supply bike racks, like the new ones on Nautilus near the lifeguard/fire station.
* Patti announced she had a meeting with Dana, Elizabeth Allen, and Susie Struhar about the dates for registration (since the school calendar for 2004-2005 has come out). They were happy with the definite possibility of running registration Monday through Friday before September 7.
* Liz asked for clarification about the attendance count on the report cards. Nancy clarified that each students has the 5 “fire” days included in the count.
* John announced that the Foundation raised $300,000 to fund the new “all purpose” field, along with some district contributions, and are still short $15,000. The field with have the same turf as the football field, and have a painted infield for softball.
* Michael asked when the last day of school next year is: Friday, June 17th.

Meeting Adjourned: 3:20 p.m.
Next Meeting: Wednesday, March 17, 2004
