3. Agenda Items Ð OLD Business

Student Privacy Issues: Dana Shelburne met with the Department Chairs and sees the issue as more complex. He will continue to look into the issue and will check into a Latin exam score issue that was brought up.

Ability to Hear the Emergency Bells: D. Shelburne reported that the bells are still not fixed. The district has been out to look at it, but they do not know what the problem is either.

Review of Evacuation Procedures: The new lower field has made revisions of the plan necessary. Additionally, the drill cannot happen until the bells are fixed. PTA offered to call the district to urge the matter. Georgina Lyon recommended a speaker system for cells, alerts, and bulletins.

Progress of Waiver Submission: D. Shelburne reported the waiver was submitted on time, was even hand-carried in when resubmitted.

Report from Subcommittee on PrincipalÕs Evaluation: Carole LeCren reported that the next meeting will be held on Monday, April 26.

4. Agenda Items Ð NEW Business

Proposed Alterations to Class Sequencing: D. Shelburne reported that due to need (apathy and low skills), there have been several proposals to alter the existing course sequence. One proposal is to have a 9th grade GLOPED course to include geography and other skills necessary to be a more successful student. World History would then be moved to the 10th grade. Jamie Ginsburg voiced her thoughts that this would not be a good idea because with other course requirements (such as four years of math and science) this would be too much. There was a long discussion on the proposals. Some other ideas included a wheel course, having GLOPED for just some students, and embedding the skills in other courses. D. Shelburne stated there is still much more discussion needed on the subject.

List of Things Needing Waivers: Item tabled until next meeting.

Drop-by Parents: Some parents are going right to teacher classrooms for meetings, without signing in or making an appointment. Patti Nussbaum will write an email to be sent out noting the need for parents to make an appointment, and to sign in upon arriving.

Drop Off/Pick Up of Students in the Pool Lot: Students drop off and pick up in the pool parking lot is causing congestion. PTA will mention to parents that this is not an acceptable location for this.

5. Roundtable

Congratulations to the Bank of America Scholarship Award Winners, Katina Mitchell and Juliana Soic. Congrats also to Journalism for a first place with merit Ð the only one in California, and to Speech and Debate for their Nationals eligibility.

Thanks to PTA for a great drug awareness assembly. Patti Nussbaum passed around an anonymous note form a parent regarding drug use at LJHS.

Meeting Adjourned: 3:50 p.m.
