Robotics Competition
In December two LJHS teams competed in the First San Diego County Robotics Competition sponsored by City College. Each team had three weeks to build a robot from a Lego MindStorm kit and design a course for it to travel. Within the course, the robot had to move five objects together; the more massive the objects, the more points earned. In addition, the team prepared a logbook showing work, decisions, costs, and group dynamics and made a presentation with a theme. Team members worked after school, on weekends, over holidays, at lunch, and late on the last night to make decisions and complete all the needed tasks. A lot was learned about group dynamics, commitment, and scheduling, as well as how to build, program, and tame a robot.
