Robotics Competition

In December two LJHS teams competed in the First San Diego County Robotics Competition sponsored by City College.  Each team had three weeks to build a robot from a Lego MindStorm kit and design a course for it to travel.  Within the course, the robot had to move five objects together; the more massive the objects, the more points earned.  In addition, the team prepared a logbook showing work, decisions, costs, and group dynamics and made a presentation with a theme.
Team members worked after school, on weekends, over holidays, at lunch, and late on the last night to make decisions and complete all the needed tasks.  A lot was learned about group dynamics, commitment, and scheduling, as well as how to build, program, and tame a robot.

Regional International
Aviation Art Contest

Several Science Team and Physics students entered the Regional International Aviation Art Contest sponsored by the San Diego Aerospace Museum and the San Diego Port Authority.  The task was to combine science, art, and history to design an international postage stamp.  Three LJHS students won awards out of the 169 entries for the county.
Alex Li won a first place from the San Diego Port Authority and a second place from the San Diego Aerospace Museum.  Danielle Beebe earned a second place and Yvonne Heung a third place from the San Diego Port Authority.  All the winning entries were forwarded to the state level of competition.  Thanks and best wishes to all students who entered and to those advancing to the next level of competition!
