Parents: Inform Yourselves!

Happy New Year to all parents, and wishes for healthy, happy times ahead for you and your children!
First, a website has been introduced by San Diego City Schools, an interactive
drug information website for teens in both English and Spanish.  Look at www.bubblemonkey.com for a hip format and much information on teenage issues and drug names, including their uses and abuses.
Next, parents have expressed concern about the use of
limousines for dances and prom nights.  The danger of using a limousine comes when a ride turns into a "booze cruise," a common nickname for a ride in a limousine.  Many a story is told of teenagers who gather together in a limo, then drink alcohol, and arrive at the dance, home, or friend's house inebriated.  Parents, it is worthwhile to contact the limousine company and talk with the management and the driver so that our students are not able to find a venue in which to drink.  Would it be worth it for your child to lose once-in-a-lifetime opportunities, such as graduation, for the sake of a poor decision such as this?

Mamselles is an organization that is a cause for concern each year.  It is not associated with the school, and has been known for degrading and dangerous activities for high school girls.  Please talk with Vice Principal Mrs. Campbell if your daughter has been invited to join the Mamselles.
Finally, the horrible incidence of teen suicide touched San Diego again recently.  Our community and countless others are heartbroken when a child is lost to
suicide.  Our school has participated in the Yellow Ribbon Suicide
Prevention Program in the past.  Their website is
www.yellowribbon.org.  The website is fascinating and suitable for all parents.  If you're not familiar with it, please do take time to look at the resources there.
Congratulations to all of you who are working so hard to help our children have wonderful, relatively low-stress high school experiences!
