PTA News

PTA PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

"To bring into closer relation the home and the school, that parents and teachers may cooperate intelligently in the education of children and youth…"

This is one of the five "Objects" of the National PTA. It's as relevant today as it was in 1897, when PTA was founded. And, in my view, it's as relevant to high school as it is to elementary school. Aren't grades 9 -12 as important as grades K - 3?  Do our children need our support any less? PTA provides us with a structure to facilitate our involvement in our children's lives.

Let us help you get involved in your student's life:

  • Join PTA--your dues fund the mailing of this newsletter each month, the printing of the annual planners given to all students, mini-grants to teachers, teacher appreciation activities, and much more.
  • Read and save this newsletter--it's the single best source of timely information.  Keep it in a safe place until the next issue arrives. Check "Dates to Remember" on the back page and enter the relevant ones on your family calendar.
  • Fill out and return the volunteer survey form on Page 9--it  suggests ways to participate in the life of LJHS even if you can give time only once during the year.
  • Ignore your student's protests and show up--attend a PTA meeting, a Principal's Chat, a band or choir concert, a play, an athletic event. You may have to sit apart from your student for family harmony, but the shared experience will still be there.
  • Connect with a teacher, counselor, or administrator when you need to--if you have a concern, it is best to air it. You can call during school hours, leave a detailed message on voice mail and suggest a time to call back. Many concerns can be addressed in a brief telephone conference.
  • Visit the school website ljhs.sandi.net--here you'll find the school bulletin, athletic schedules, links to the LJHS Foundation, and more.
  • Talk to other parents--we're all in this together…

     Patti Nussbaum, PTA President

Editor's notes:

  • All phone and fax numbers given in the newsletter have the 858 area code unless otherwise noted.
  • We attempt to avoid placing items back to back that need to be cut out and sent in; however, it is not always possible.  Please feel free to make photocopies of any pages for your convenience.
