JOIN AND VOLUNTEER!  You are Needed!

Join The PTA Today

La Jolla High School PTA invites you to become a member.  We need your support!  Membership is one of our PTA's fundraising efforts.  With these funds we are able to support our school in a number of ways.  We keep you informed with the newsletter, provide your students with daily planners, support the teachers with mini-grants, and contribute to many other worthwhile programs.
Membership dues are only $15.00 per person.  Portions of your dues go to the local, state and national PTA programs, but 100% of your tax deductible donations (any amount in addition to the $15 dues) stays at La Jolla High School.  So don't delay -- just fill out the application form and send it in today.

Thank you for supporting your school and PTA!
Susanna Flaster  & Lisa Braun-Glazer, Membership Chairs

There are Two Reasons to Volunteer at LJHS:

1.  Your students will appreciate and notice that you care about them and that you care about the school.

2.  La Jolla High School would not be what it is if it didn't have such great volunteer support!  Plus, you meet the nicest people.

Please fill out the form on the "Forms" page and mail it to the address shown.  You will be contacted throughout the year as events occur.  If you know other people who would like to volunteer, tell them to send in their information, too.  It is fun to work with people you know, and it is also fun to meet new people.

The AP Workshop Needs You
Come, Volunteer, Have Fun!
November 1

This is La Jolla High School's sixth year hosting the Advanced Placement Teacher's Conference.  Advanced Placement teachers attend this day-long workshop from all over the nation.  PTA volunteers serve a continental breakfast, a mid-morning snack, and lunch.  This event is the largest fundraiser for our PTA.  A very special Thank You goes to Togo's Sandwich Shop at 1802 Garnet Avenue for generously providing their delicious sandwiches for this event.  Two shifts of volunteers are needed on Saturday, November 1.  First shift: 6:30 - 9:30 a.m., Second Shift 9:30 - 1:00 p.m.  To help with this great event, please call Joyce Dostart,
AP Workshop Chair, 455-5553 or email Dostart@san.rr.com.

LJHS Library Tribute Fund

One suggested addition to this year's student supplies list:  a book.  Not just any book - one for the LJHS Library.  Contributions to the Library Tribute Fund help kids this year and well into the future by keeping the collection current.  Internet resources and local bookstores don't provide all that students need for a well rounded education.  Since budget shortfalls have already impacted the school too much, and the public library in La Jolla isn't scheduled to reopen until late fall, there's no better time than right now to contribute.
There are two extra benefits:  your gift is tax deductible, and a nameplate will appear in the front of the volume you underwrite, so you can use the donation to honor or remember someone important in your life.  Donations are acknowledged with a note and in this newsletter.
Thank you to Trudy Sopp Thomas for a donation last spring and to LJHS ASB, who contributed in memory of George Pantano's mother.
Call Michelle Ganon at 454-0069 for more information.  Please give generously today!
