LJHS Sweeps Southern California Chemagination Contest…Seven projects from the LJHS Science Team entered this American Chemical Society competition, in which students develop a chemistry-based concept and say how it would change teenagers' lives 25 years in the future. Because of a conflict with the PSAT, most teams had only one student present, but LJHS' superior training and skills prevailed. Four of the seven LJHS teams claimed the top prize in each of four categories. Winning students present included Stephanie Vinson, Pauline Chan, Sharon Xie, and Elizabeth Evans. Their teammates taking the PSAT or otherwise busy were Danielle Beebe, Andrew Shu, Ivan Yulaev, Leo Kim, Alex Li and Dorian Mattrey. Also, LJHS entries from a previous competition were published in the journal Chemagination. The students and alumni published are Rachel MacDonald ('01), Matthew Teachworth ('02), Azlynn Hare ('02), Diane Tehrani ('03), Josh Shorenstein ('04) and Kylise Hare ('04).
LJHS wins top prizes in Aerospace Museum Scale Model Contest…This is the third year LJHS students have competed. Models ranged from the Wright Flyer to spacecraft, and varied from plastic to made-from-scratch. Eighteen LJHS students entered the competition and won 16 of the 30 top prizes. The biggest winner of the day for LJHS was Alex Li with two first place awards. The first place models will be on display at the Aerospace Museum until October 2004.
