AP Workshop Cancelled, but Thanks for Volunteering

The AP Workshop was cancelled for November 1, because of the San Diego County fires.  However, I would like to give a "Thank You," to all the volunteers who so generously volunteered to work on the AP Workshop, which was to be held at LJHS. Thank you also to Togo's Sandwich Shop at 1802 Garnet Avenue for planning to supply the sandwiches and to the Ambassador Coffee Service for their planned coffee donation.
At press time, the workshop has not been rescheduled.

Joyce Dostart, AP Workshop Chair

Parent Congress

The San Diego Unified School District Superintendent meets with delegates from Parent Congress four times during each school year to discuss student progress and gather input from parents about educational issues. Each school is represented by a parent delegate who works with the principal to ensure other parents get information and have an opportunity to give their feedback and ideas.  Parent Congress meetings, combined with site follow-up meetings, provide systematic ways for parents to ask questions about educational issues and give feedback to district leaders.

The first meeting was held October 2 at the Quality Resort in Mission Valley.  Mr. Bersin reported that because of the deficit, the City Schools will have to cut as much or more from this year's budget as  last year.  The main topic of discussion for the evening was High School Reform.  This effort is geared toward improving graduation rates via student engagement and high expectations.  La Jolla High is one of the few district schools that does not have to participate in High School Reform.
