PTA Begins Planning for 2004-2005

As required by PTA Bylaws, five people were elected at the January PTA meeting to serve on the Nominating Committee.  Their job is to develop a slate of officers for the next school year, as well as line up volunteers for the general board positions. The election will take place at the April PTA meeting.

Nominating Committee members elected are: Linda Dowley (Chair), Karen Bohrer, Joan Hiser, Liz Lindenfeld, and Ilene Wachsman. Alternates are:  Sheila Dershowitz, Jeanette Wright and Venzel Hammerschaimb.

If you have an interest in serving in any PTA capacity next year, please contact Linda Dowley at 454-8199 or ldowley@hotmail.com.

PTA Sponsors CPR Training for Sophomores

The sophomores at La Jolla High took the Heartsaver CPR in Schools program in January. The American Heart Association, in conjunction with the Cardiac Support Center at UCSD, conducted the course, along with teachers and volunteers.  PTA fully funded this wonderful program. Four P.E. teachers were certified as American Heart Association instructors in December 2003. They will be incorporating a CPR program into the P.E. department curriculum every year. The PTA's role in the future will be to support the CPR program with funding and volunteers.

I would like to thank the principal, vice-principals, the PE teachers, the PTA and the 25 wonderfully energetic volunteers for making the CPR in Schools program possible. The collaboration and cooperation between administration, teachers, students, parents and the community is what made this program so successful. The students at La Jolla High School will surely strengthen "the chain of survival" and save lives.
