Guidance and Counseling Center (info for parents and students)

California Scholarship Federation (C.S.F.) Eligibility

In February, students should check the G & C Center bulletin board to see if their names appear on the California Scholastic Federation's eligibility list. Eligible students should then go to the Finance Office window and pay the $5 membership fee to join C.S.F. by the February deadline, which will be announced in the school bulletin.
C.S.F. membership at LJHS is based on grades earned in a student's
sophomore, junior, and senior years of high school. A grade of D, F, N, or U in any course disqualifies a student. C.S.F. membership is semester to semester. Retroactive membership is not possible.

LJHS Scholarship Foundation Scholarships Available

The La Jolla High School Scholarship Foundation offers non-repayment scholarship grants to graduating seniors who have financial need for college next fall. Applications will be available in the G & C Center in March and are due by mid-April. Seniors are eligible to apply if they have:

  • financial need
  • an overall minimum GPA of 2.3
  • a formulated plan for continuing education (i.e., 2- or 4-year college, technical, or vocational school) which includes full-time attendance and enrollment in classes worth at least 12 semester credits
  • filed a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal
Student Aid) and submitted a copy with the
    application.
Last year more than $80,000 was given to qualifying LJHS graduates to help them begin their college educations.

Other Scholarships

Scholarship materials come into the
G & C Center on a daily basis.  They're listed in the "Planning for Tomorrow..." handbook, and publicized in the bulletin.
The Rotary Scholarship Fund accepts applications from seniors graduating from La Jolla schools. There are no restrictions as to college or major. The relative need to meet college expenses will be considered. For the deadline, see the application, available in the
G & C Center.
The Florence Riford Trust Fund, administered by the Rotary Club, finances scholarships with certain restrictions. Students must major in math, science, engineering, or
medicine and must attend a college in California (preferably a UC school). Financial need is not a consideration. The application will be available in the G & C Center in March.
