LJHS Students Win Essay Contest

The Friends of the San Diego Society and the California Medical Association Alliance recently sponsored an annual essay project, "When Not to Keep a Secret."  This project was open to ninth and tenth grade high school students as a voluntary option in their English classes. The goal was to facilitate discussion and bring attention to the fact that violent talk can lead to violent action. La Jolla High School students Meredith Ganon, a student of Mr. Fournier, and Jacqueline Zebrowski of Ms. Jacques' English class, were two of five winners at the San Diego regional level. They will receive an award and a $250 gift certificate for Westfield malls. Their essays are also eligible for submission to the state competition. State level winners will receive a trip to Sacramento for themselves and a parent, awards to be presented on both the State Assembly and Senate floors, and a Savings Bond. State winners will then be eligible for the national competition. Congratulations to both Meredith and Jacqueline for their exceptional essays.
